Shipmates, this is the third in a short series of information sheets outlining the Fort Worth Conventions.
Convention dates: Mid - Year, 31 March-03 April. Regional, 17 - 21 August.
Convention Chairman are PRPSC Mike Snyder (FRA) and PRPSC Pat Snyder (AFRA)
The conventions are being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Fort Worth South. The location is 100 Alta Mesa East Boulevard, Fort Worth, TX 76134. Exit 44 off I-35W. Hotel telephone numbers are: 817-293-3088, 877-227-6963. Fax is 817-759-4631.
We now have the ability to make dedicated reservations online. Go to www.crowneplaza.com/fortworthsouth. At the hotel page, on the left under "Check Availability" enter the dates you desire, number of people and rooms. Then in the Group Code block enter FR1 if you are booking dates for Mid-Year, or FR2 for the Regional Convention in August. Depress the "Check Availability" button and this will take you to our dedicated FRA reservation page. Reserve your room. The hotel will honor FRA room rates four days prior and four days after the conventions. Room rate is $83.00. Suites are $30.00 more.
The hotel will accept pets with a $25.00 deposit.Crowne Plaza has a no smoking policy, so there are no smoking rooms available. Rooms for pets will need to be a call reservation. They can't be done on-line. There are a limited number of suites available as well. You will need to call for these too. Please remember to tell them that you are with the Fleet Reserve Association so we get credit for the rooms!
Crowne Plaza is associated with Priority Club. So, if you used it at the Holiday Inn, it is accepted at Crowne Plaza as well.
The hospitality room is scheduled to open at 1200 on Thursday 31 March. Shipmate Charley Randall is Chairman assisted by Shipmate Richard Waltman. There will not be any hot food, but snacks will be available along with your favorite beverages. We are hoping for a DJ for Friday night. Yes, there is a dance floor in the suite! You're going to like this hospitality room!
And, a flash from the past. The FRA trailer will be back at convention! Look for it at the entrance to the parking area by the hospitality room/convention registration entrance.
Other items in work are having NAS Fort Worth Commanding Officer Captain T.D. Smyers at the joint opening as guest speaker. Also, a color guard, and singers of the National Anthem.
